A leading provider of Geoscience Software seeks a Senior Qt/UI Software Developer to drive and implement new and improved graphical user interfaces for a well-established scientific product range. Applicants invited with proven software development experience using the Qt Toolkit (i.e., open-source cross-platform software for creating graphical user interfaces). Preference for people living in Europe (especially living in Netherlands) due to time differences. However, applicants from other locations will be considered, you will just have to visit the office in the Hague a few times a year. The role offers the opportunity to radically change the interactive experience for Clients.

Their advanced geoscience technology enables their global client base to develop a better understanding of the subsurface, manage exploration and development risks and quantify reserves more accurately.

They have expanded their solution portfolio in recent years through many acquisitions of geoscience providers and continue to develop and add innovative technological tools. They also work closely with their clients in researching, defining, developing and deploying customised solutions, not just for oil and gas but now looking at low carbon initiatives.

You will work on an established Geophysical portfolio of products that have been used globally by major and national oil operators for many years. Under new ownership and management, the Company is committed to innovating the user interface – improving the usability for clients and providing a very modern look and feel. With a strong Qt background – you will be instrumental in driving and delivering this objective.

Reporting to the Product Program Manager, your primary responsibilities will be to:
  • Establish good working relations with the Development Team across their offices in the Hague, Houston, Dallas and Calgary.
  • Take responsibility for the advancement of the usability and look and feel of the geophysical software products.
  • Analyze the current product GUIs and identify possible improvements.
  • Drive/Contribute to improving GUI consistency across every part of the software.
  • Conduct and participate in GUI design reviews, in tight interaction with subject matter experts and other software developers.
  • Design and implement new GUIs and improvements to existing GUIs.
  • Assume maintenance responsibility for certain parts of the already existing software.
  • Contribute to defining best practices and document them in GUI guidelines.
  • Contribute to improving GUI consistency across every part of the software – as a senior developer, drive the direction of what this modernisation looks like!
  • Work closely with the Client base, in getting feedback on the new user interfaces – incorporate suggestions/recommendations
The successful candidate will have:
  • A bachelor (BSc) or master’s degree (MSc) in Human-Computer Interaction, Computer Science, Software Engineering OR experience in a scientific field with strong affinity with software development essential.
  • Demonstrable experience in GUI design essential – preferably have a portfolio showcasing work.
  • Solid experience with Qt and C++ essential.
  • Proficiency in object-oriented programming essential.
  • Ability to work with cross-functional teams in various locations, to share best practices and knowledge essential.
  • A geophysical/Geoscience background advantageous – if not, willingness to obtain/learn aspects of geophysics essential.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to connect with the users of the software – to engage with them in a coherent manner – to gather insights into their workflows and usage of the project tools.
  • Experience with cross-platform (Windows and Linux) programming desired.
  • Familiarity with Agile software development practices and Scrum desired.
  • Familiarity with GUI test automation desired.
  • Interest in DevOps practices desired.
  • Passionate – takes pride in what you develop and deliver to clients.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Highly analytical – good problem-solving skills
  • Ability to think creatively.
  • Proficiency in written and spoken English.
  • Willingness to travel.
Other Information
Package: A Base Salary of €70k + Bonus is on offer depending on skills and experience - plus a range of Company Benefits. There may be some flexibility on salary range for a high calibre candidate. 27 days holiday + Public Holidays.
