Overview
A leading supplier of Software and Services to the Energy Industry seeks a Data Engineer to coordinate and support the Company’s remote well operations services. This entails supporting customer’s use of well data visualisation and analysis software through technical support, presentations and training. Applicants are invited who are IT savvy, have some well site operations experience (e.g. Mudlogging, Wellsite Geology…) and who are keen to advance their career as the Company expands their solutions across other digital domains. The Company is a recognised supplier of technology and services to Oil and Gas Operators for over 2 decades. The software focuses on providing innovative and reliable solutions for the transfer of digital data for integrated operations in drilling, subsurface, production and pipeline.
With offices in the UK, Houston, India and Jakarta, the Company provides 24/7 on-time, bespoke support to their clients across 60 countries. Their teams in each location comprise geoscientists, engineers and domain experts who provide systems, tools and solutions to reduce cost, improve operations and streamline the flow of real-time data and information.

With established technologies and loyal clients, the Company is embracing this new digital transformation phase. They have identified and are pursuing many new opportunities for their software solutions across Oil and Gas (e.g. Pore Pressure, Predictive Analysis, Production Optimisation, Pipeline Integrity…), other Energy sectors such as Geothermal and other industries. All staff are encouraged to gain exposure in their key business sectors (e.g. Sales, Marketing, Research, Development, Support, Industry Events) and to contribute to growth.
 
Responsibilities
Reporting to the Operations Manager, your role is varied and includes:
  • Become competent in the Company’s suite of software solutions, services, work flows and practices.
  • Project set up and monitoring of online well data services, ensuring high levels of data and service quality
  • Advise clients of monitored wells on sub-optimal data and drilling operations issues
  • Spot problems (data, internet, supplier…) – take control and resolve or escalate as required
  • Provide user workflow assistance, technical support and training to software user group, including out of hours
  • Create, test and deliver on-time customised and commissioned material for client base, including analysis and interpretation of drilling and subsurface data
  • Conduct software training courses at Company or client premises from basic one day courses to multi-day advanced courses.
  • Provide clear and accurate documented workflows for consumption by clients.
  • Provide as part of a team supporting files and documentation required for the software.
  • Constantly assess and analyse the software's ability to provide a solution.
  • Perform software testing for all applications and services and provide fully analysed results.
  • Establish and maintain working relationships with client base.
  • Conduct research projects into new features or workflows for inclusion into the company's product or service offering.
  • Support other Company offices/centres as required.
  • Be proactive in digital transformation activities of operators – especially pertaining to real time data operations across all Energy sectors.
  • Keep abreast of Industry – new players, trends, practices, technologies, competitors.
  • Share knowledge and contribute to ideas for future services and software solutions…
  • Attend industry events – strive to raise the awareness and reputation of the Company – get involved in writing papers and presenting…

This is an exciting role for an individual who is IT savvy, has some experience of well site operations and is keen to learn and develop in a technical support role with an expanding digital Company. Learning and Development is a key part of the role and you will be supported and mentored and encouraged to take on more responsibility as you progress.
 
Preferences
The successful candidate will have:
  • A Degree in Engineering, Geology or relevant Earth Science essential.
  • Some wellsite experience in Geological or Drilling operations roles essential.
  • IT savvy with a keen interest in the digital world essential – e.g. big data, predictive analysis, artificial intelligence, machine learning....
  • Understanding/experience of Cloud solutions on AWS or MS Azure of interest.
  • Highly analytical with good troubleshooting skills essential – can spot problem and source, apply sound judgement, assess severity, resolve or escalate to appropriate personnel as required.
  • A passion for automation and operational efficiency.
  • Experience in working in a real time data centre highly advantageous.
  • A good understanding of key concepts of drilling and subsurface operations essential.
  • Knowledge of wits0 and WITSML data standards preferable.
  • Previous experience supporting or providing training in technology highly advantageous.
  • Always Customer Focused – ensuring a positive customer experience at all levels of interaction.
  • An understanding/ knowledge of geomechanics, well bore stability, pore pressure prediction etc. may be of interest as Company may over-time add to their portfolio of services.
  • Excellent analytical, trouble-shooting and problem solving skills with a focus on quickly identifying and resolving customer issues.
  • Excellent English language communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Highly self-motivated and able to work effectively as part of a team
  • Good organisational and time-management skills with the ability to multi-task and prioritize conflicting demands effectively under tight time constraints

Other Information
Package: A Base Salary of £25K - £30K is on offer dependent on skills and experience. There may be some flexibility on the Base for high a calibre candidate. Plus, Company Pension and Bonus scheme.
