Overview
A dynamic innovative software Company in the Oil and Gas industry seeks a Business Development Manager to promote and drive sales growth across their existing client base and in the development of new clients in Nigeria. Applicants are invited with experience in selling software applications, preferably within the geoscience or reservoir engineering arena. Where reservoir domain knowledge is lacking, you will be supported by a Technical Team, and obtain full training in the technologies. The key to the role is the ability to close sales and provide effective account management. The role is open to all who have experience working in Nigeria with established contacts. As Nigerian revenue increases, there is a potential to extend the responsibilities and remit of the role, wider in the Africa region.

The Company was established to provide next-step-change-technologies, which they have succeeded in doing. Their reservoir simulation technology is fast becoming a game changer, reducing engineer’s time exponentially from more traditional established tools.

The technology exceeds expectations of most, providing high performance computing power (i.e. workstations, clusters, cloud), rich modelling functionality, advanced visualisation interfaces and most importantly smart and attractive pricing structures to meet the varying needs and budgets of clients. The software also covers all subsurface domains for a full integrated technology in subsurface studies.

Smart technologies that greatly reduce time and costs have been highly evident in the upstream industry in recent years. By taking advantage of the continuous progress in computing technologies, this Company are delivering simulation tools designed to ensure continuous improvements in performance across the reservoir engineers’ laptops, servers, and HPC clusters.


 
Responsibilities
Responsibilities: Reporting to the Business Development Director your primary responsibilities will be to:
  • Become knowledgeable in the Company’s technologies and associated services. Full training provided.
  • Take responsibility for developing the Company’s software business in Nigeria.
  • Develop a deep understanding of the market – be proactive in getting to know the players, their challenges, technologies used, constraints and exploration objectives.
  • Understand how the Company’s reservoir simulation tools can help address current market conditions/challenges.
  • Seek out and build good working relationships with the key players across your accounts (e.g. geoscience, engineering, commercial, legal, IT).
  • Develop new leads and business opportunities.
  • Manage the initial software sales cycle.
    • Give software presentation to new clients.
    • Manage software evaluation projects.
    • Negotiate the contracts.
    • Close sales.
  • Lead and motivate the local team in sales and business development activities
    • Coordinate and manage the work of the local technical team
    • Build strong relationships with new and existing clients
    • Coordinate with 1st and 2nd line support in the Development Center as required.
    • Arrange meetings between client’s and the Company’s Practice Leaders/Principals.
  • Be proactive in raising awareness and reputation of the Company, software and associates services across Nigeria.
    • Coordinate and deliver Company marketing activities in the region
    • Participation at exhibitions, forums…
    • Advertising.
    • Technical workshops and conferences.
  • Attend industry events and where possible showcase the Company’s technologies.
  • Manage sales targets and reporting effectively – strive to succeed targets.
  • Establish yourself amongst the Nigerian Oil and Gas community, as the go-to-person for reservoir software, training and services.
  • Take part in setting priorities for the Software Development Team.
  • Build good working relationships with your peers and across the wider Company organization.
  • Be proactive in Company global activities in the other business regions.
  • Keep abreast of new reservoir technologies and digital solutions in the market – become competent discussing these with clients with the ability and confidence to highlight advantages of the Company’s solutions.
  • Be proactive in sharing knowledge, market trends, challenges and drivers of clients with your peers.
  • As well, as being the key driver for business growth in Nigeria, you will also assist in the expansion of office personnel and services for Nigeria.

Preferences
The successful candidate will have:
  • Master’s Degree in Petroleum Engineering or equivalent desired.
  • The role is open to all who have experience working in Nigeria with established contacts.
  • Minimum of 3 years selling software or/and services to the oil and gas industry essential.
  • Strong Account Management experience essential – the ability to engage, form relationships of trust, manage the full sales cycle and close deals is key!
  • Experience using or selling reservoir and surface network modelling software products highly desired but full training provided.
  • Working experience with a reservoir simulation technology advantageous – e.g. Eclipse, Petrel RE, CMG
  • Strong network of client contacts in the upstream oil and gas industry in Nigeria essential.
  • Previous working experience within a Service/Software Company highly desired e.g. Schlumberger, Roxar, CMG, Landmark/Halliburton..
  • Fluent in spoken and written English
  • Ability to relay technical knowledge and concepts in a coherent and friendly manner.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills – the ability to maintain and build strong relationships with clients and work colleagues.
  • Strong proactive marketing focus – on identifying opportunities to raise awareness and reputation of the software across the market.
  • Enjoys being part of an integrated, multi-disciplinary team that welcomes challenges and innovation – someone who can see the bigger picture and respond to a changing marketplace.
  • Strong project management skills essential – ability to schedule, to organise, manage and prioritise your projects.
  • Entrepreneurial individual – who can see the big picture and drive success.
  • A desire to be actively involved in the industry – keeping abreast of new reservoir techniques, technologies, market trends/practices, players, workflows…
  • Must be solution orientated – understanding the Client’s objectives and propose the best solution.
  • Willing to travel as required.
