A leading core analysis laboratory for the oil and gas industry is looking for a Laboratory Technician to join their Routine Core Analysis team. The candidate will be involved in all major processes and analyses performed throughout complete core analysis projects; including responsibilities such as sample preparation, CT scanning and Routine Core Analysis. A keen attention to detail is required, the desire to generate high quality, repeatable results, and ultimately to become a specialist in the role. As required, training in the Company’s workflows and associated tools will be provided at the Company offices in Surrey. This is an ideal role for someone with previous Laboratory experience or someone who has an interest in IT/Technologies and would enjoy this sort of work. A Base Salary of £21K - £25K is on offer.

As recognised experts in the field of high quality core handling procedures, they have purpose built laboratories for Core Analysis. With a Team of highly experience personnel, they undertake a range of analytical projects on behalf of their clients globally.

The Laboratory Team is small at present, consisting of about 5 people, many who have been with the Company for 10+ years.
Reporting to the Laboratory Supervisor – Routine Core Analysis, the successful applicant’s duties will consist of the following:
  • Processing services including but not limited to: washing cuttings, sample preparation, core cutting, stabilisation, plugging, slabbing, resination, maintenance and packaging.
  • Core profiling analysis services including but not limited to: gamma logging, permeametry, rock hardness testing, white light and UV photography and core CT scanning.
  • Plug preparation including hot, cool and total immersion soxhlet cleaning, mercury bulk volume determination, conventional and humidity oven drying.
  • Unsteady state and Steady State permeability, porosity and grain density analysis.
  • Maintenance and setting up of equipment associated with core / sample handling and processing.
  • Compliance with all standard operating procedures and health and safety requirements.
  • Ability to effectively risk-assess and document requirements associated with Company methods of operation and those specific to area or location.
  • Provide effective status updates during operations.
  • Provide quality control reports when necessary
Preferences: The successful candidate will have:
  • Must be within commuting range of the laboratory – near Guildford - Surrey
  • Relevant technical / Laboratory background desired but training provided.
  • The desire to generate high quality, repeatable results essential
  • Comfortable with laboratory conditions – can be a lot of repetitive work.
  • Previous oil and gas industry experience or degree related advantageous but training provided.
  • Strong computer literacy including but not limited to: Word, Excel,
  • Previous experience in Photoshop, Indesign and similar software packages would be advantageous.
  • High attention to detail and the ability to work quickly, safely and accurately
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work effectively as part of a team
  • Basic maths competency in both metric and imperial units.
  • Strong understanding of HSE considerations associated with the operation of cutting machinery and chemicals while operating in a technical and engineering environment.
  • Must be flexible, a trouble shooter and problem solver essential – sometimes equipment can fail and there can be immediate changes to the scope of work. You need to adjust and cope.
  • Comfortable with technical instruments. Ability to diagnose/calibrate/repair equipment advantageous.
  • Physically strong as you will have to lift core samples.
Other Information
Package: A Base Salary of £21K - £25K is on offer dependent on skills and experience, plus Benefits. Training will be provided.
