Overview
A leading global Services Company in the Oil and Gas industry seeks two IT Consultants. Working in an established Team, you will focus on one client and be actively involved in the delivery of their global software deployment of geoscience applications from an IT perspective. Applicants are invited from all industries with a minimum of 3 years work experience preferably in an IT support related role. A Geology/Geophysicist background with proven IT is of keen interest. Experience in the deployment of software solutions, competency in relational databases or/and scripting skills is of key interest. This is an exciting role, learning from experienced IT and subsurface personnel and actively contributing to an environment where science, engineering, large-scale cloud computing, and modern DevOps intersect.

Supported by global offices, the Company is a leading provider of integrated software solutions, covering the entire upstream oil cycle – from finding oil and gas to evaluating the prospects, building the wells, and managing and optimising the production process. They have been at the forefront of leading technology advancements for nearly three decades, enabling their clients turn critical information into useful knowledge.


You will be fully immersed within the existing team, mentored and trained to deliver against the project commitments as well as being developed in new technologies and processes, helping to troubleshoot and resolve problems and issues to ensure the highest degree of customer satisfaction.

The role is based in Krakow but there could be a requirement for occasional travel.
 
Responsibilities
Reporting to the Project Lead your primary responsibilities will be to:
  • Become knowledgeable in the Company’s geoscience and data management platforms. Full training provided.
  • Build good working relationships with your peers.
  • Be proactive in learning about client’s system environments – data, infrastructure, technologies deployed, 3rd party applications, system architecture etc.
  • Become actively involved in the delivery of the Company’s software and services for clients.
  • Work independently to resolve application operational issues – this could be via phone, email.
  • Work closely with the R&D team in relation to new software releases and patches – e.g. what is being released, when, how, impact on system environments etc.
  • Ensure you communicate and schedule application and infrastructural changes with related stakeholders. Ensure you identify and understand any implications of these changes as part of the scheduling process.
  • Share “lessons-learnt” with colleagues.
  • Deliver all services in a timely and professional manner - strive to exceed client expectations.
  • Work as part of a Team and independently as required.
  • Be proactive in continuous improvement and automation efforts.
  • Be proactive in seeking out information, advice and support as required
  • Be proactive in expanding your knowledge base re system environments (current and trending)
  • Coach and mentor more junior team members as needed. Share knowledge and experiences to improve the understanding and skills of the overall team.


This role provides a career development path designed for you to learn new technologies and grasp new technical concepts quickly, enabling you to understand issues and drive solutions. You will be mentored and supported by more senior team members. The role offers the opportunity to develop your career as an “IT Specialist” with focus on deployment, DevOps… or as a “Subsurface Specialist” in the realms of data science, geoscience, consultancy or develop a mixture of both. There is immense scope to learn!
 
Preferences
Preferences: The successful candidate will have:
  • Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Geology or Geophysics desired.
  • A minimum of 3 years’ work experience essential. Preferably with some in a IT support capacity.
  • A strong knowledge of IT/System environments essential.
  • Must be IT savvy!
  • Good understanding of IT Service Management desired.
  • An understanding of subsurface technologies deployed in the oil and gas industry (e.g. from Schlumberger, Landmark, Emerson, Baker…) highly desired.
  • An understanding of Data Management applications/frameworks deployed highly desired.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills desired.
  • Hands-on experience of Linux or Database system administration desired.
  • Strong written and verbal English communication skills
  • Proactive, able to seek out solutions, take on challenges and eager to learn and expand your skill set – this is key.
  • Experience in mentoring more junior staff desired.
  • Previous customer-facing experience desired. Ability to engage, secure trust and manage stakeholder relations effectively is key!
  • Software development/scripting skills (i.e. JavaScript-based open-source front-end web framework (AngularJS) desired.
  • Knowledge of web services and web service APIs desired.
  • Understanding of concepts of Data science, Machine learning & AI desired.
  • Understanding of cloud environment. Azure/AWS desired
  • Good team player essential – ability to work across all peers involved in service delivery.
  • Desire to learn new technologies and grasp new technical concepts quickly, enabling you to understand issues and drive solutions
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision and collaborate with multiple project teams in parallel.
  • An assertive individual with the personality and confidence to build strong relationships and deliver solutions effectively.
  • A strong appreciation of stakeholder relationships.
  • Good reporting skills.
  • Willingness and flexibility to travel.
