Overview
A fast growing Business Intelligence Group seeks to recruit a Senior Research Analyst to join their NW Europe team in London or Aberdeen, to help further develop their regional research in this region. Applicants invited with 3+ years’ experience in the E&P industry, background in either commercial or technical subsurface, an aptitude for data analysis combined with excellent analytical, written and verbal communication skills. Ideally looking for someone with some experience of North Sea assets, an understanding of economic analysis and cash flow. However, the key is the aptitude and desire to embrace this space. The role can be based within their London or Aberdeen Research Teams. Full training and support provided. Opportunities to travel!
The team provides unique technical and commercial insights for their NW Europe E&P clients, helping them make improved exploration and business development decisions. The research combines deep technical information and knowledge with insight verified by a highly experienced team of regional industry experts, delivered through online databases, reports and analysis.
The work involves monitoring and collating E&P activity through primary and secondary research, analysing data and providing insight to their expanding client base.

Responsibilities
Reporting to the Head of NW Europe Research, the role encompasses many functions including:
  • Research and summarise operational news flow and information on assets, companies and markets
  • Interpret E&P company information and draw out insights
  • Maintain the Company’s market intelligence database through daily updates of wells, discoveries, fields and licences
  • Prepare and update commercial valuation models for assets, companies and hubs
  • Provide thought leadership on topical events in the NW Europe E&P sector through quality analytical written reports, client and industry presentations
  • Provide expertise and support on consulting projects
  • Contribute to the design and future development of the Company’s intelligence product
  • Build a strong network of relationships and contacts across the industry
  • Travel within NW Europe to conduct intelligence meetings and provide support to clients
  • Build a network of company connections and experienced industry individuals to assist in understanding market trends and developments and to provide reputable commentary and support.
  • Help generate new business opportunities through networking and participating in promotional events.
  • As a senior researcher, proactively support the head of NW Europe:
    • Resource planning for the team
    • Review of works produced
    • Liaising with clients re requirements, new products…
    • Intelligence gathering and reporting
    • Promote good knowledge transfer across team and company

Preferences
The successful candidate will have:
  • Academic background in a relevant upstream related area (e.g. petroleum, geology, geophysics, economics, risk analysis...) OR/AND upstream oilfield market experience preferably in a service company, operator or market analytics areas essential.
  • A commerical or technical background considered.
  • A minimum of 3+ years industry experience with a service or operator company – good understanding of exploration and production life cycle key.
  • Previous research analysis experience highly desired but training available.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, and an ability to create and proof compelling content for external audiences.
  • Some commerical experience highly desired – e.g. Experience of Petroleum Economics, especially in preparing and analysing asset and company cashflows is of key interest. Again training provided.
  • A good understanding and practical experience in data handling and analysis
  • Have an inquisitive mind – aptitude to acquire information, analysis the detail but see the bigger picture!
  • Enthusiastic and dedicated personality and fast learner essential.
  • Confidence in public speaking and ability to communicate complex technical issues to clients, both verbally and in writing
  • Experience of GIS software and relational databases would be an advantage
  • A strong team player with good interpersonal skills but with the ability to work under own initiative to meet project deadlines.
  • Highly proactive – can effectively support other team members and take some of the load from the NW Head of Research.
  • High level of competence in standard Office software
  • A high-level understanding of the wider E&P industry, particularly understanding company development strategies desired.
  • A good knowledge of market practices and how decisions to explore are made desired.
  • Good contacts within oilfield service companies, operators and analytical community desired.
  • Ability to work under own initiative to meet project deadlines.
  • Can travel across NW Europe as required.
