Overview
Interested in TAX FREE Role? One of a largest domestic Refining Company’s in Saudi seeks a Shift Superintendent to provide ongoing operational instructions and guidance to the refinery production teams and coordinate the operational interface between plants to ensure safe manufacture of products as per specification and schedule requirements. Applicants invited with a degree in Chemical Engineering or equivalent, combined with a minimum of 15 years relevant experience, of which 3 should be in a supervisory role. Working on a Tax Free, Expat permanent role, you will be exposed to a great opportunity to develop your specific expertise working across various stakeholders on high value projects. This role is offered in adherence with Saudi Labour Law and therefore these positions are only open to Males and under the age of 58. This is a senior level role and a commensurable salary is on offer. Jubail is a large city located in the Eastern Province of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia on the coast of the Persian Gulf and is easily accessible to Bahrain and Al Khobar.

This is a residential permanent position (i.e. not rotational) and the Company provides 22 – 26 days holiday (depending on grade) plus you are entitled to all of the Saudi Public holidays (circa 10 - 14 days) which provide ample time to visit family. The package is substantial, with allowances for housing / settling in / transportation, annual bonus, medical, schooling, flights home etc. The Company will organise all mobilisation / demobilisation transport.


Due to visa restrictions within Saudi, there is a preference for western nationals such as American, Canadian, Australian, Europeans etc.
 
Responsibilities
Reporting to the Operations Head, you will be responsible for:
  • Provide ongoing operational instructions and guidance to the refinery production teams and coordinate the operational interface between plants to ensure safe manufacture of products as per specification and schedule requirements
  • Monitor the receipt of crude and feedstock to ensure compliance with the production plan.
  • Ensure initial incident investigation is performed in a timely manner and the relevant data is captured.
  • Lead the incident response efforts in case of emergency and communicate with external parties where necessary to report any upset that affects either the Company or neighbouring companies and vice versa.
  • Coordinate the interface between plants to ensure optimum refinery and causeway operations.
  • Communicate with external parties for operational requirements.
  • Prepare custody transfer documentation to support finance invoicing .
  • Provide the shift team with operational instructions during normal operation and plant upset conditions to ensure safe operation.
  • Produce reports to reflect plant operation status.
  • Monitor the operating parameters (equipment and people) of all plants to ensure refinery streams and utilities are within specified limits and optimum utilization of resources and capacity.
  • Ensure production continuity is assured through providing the required resources and any speciality as required.
  • Monitor environmental limits & advise on the necessary plant changes to comply with environmental regulations.
  • Perform the Authorised Safety Inspector (ASI) outside normal working hours.
  • Ensuring the business processes and work activities, relevant to the position, are executed in compliance with Company policy, procedures and best practice to achieve the business objectives in a safe, efficient and cost effective manner.
  • Leading, motivating, developing and assessing the assigned team to achieve business objectives and grow capability.
  • Ensures compliance with Saudi laws and regulations
  • Workplace (WPS) and Process (PSM) Safety, Within the position holder’s area of responsibility:
    • Ensure that the safety & well-being of employees, contractors, and others are always the first consideration in decisions on cost, production, quality and productivity.
    • Enforce operational discipline by ensuring all workplace and process safety procedures and practices are understood and implemented in order to avoid potential WPS and PSM incidents occurring.
    • Apply the Company HSE Policy; the 5 Safety Principles, and enforce the 12 Golden Safety Rules.
  • Performance Indicators, All relevant leading and lagging HSE KPIs Within the position holder’s area of responsibility as identified in:
    • The Company HSE Business Plan
    • Area SPIRIT Plans
    • Site and Area HSE Dashboards
  • Keep abreast of emerging trends and technologies within your relevant field.
 
Preferences
The successful candidate will have
  • Full time degree (no long distance learning degrees) in Chemical Engineering or equivalent essential.
  • A minimum of 15 years’ experience in the oil/gas or petrochemical industries essential.
  • Minimum of 3 years in a supervisory role essential.
  • Strong knowledge of Refinery Processes essential. Experience within the Refinery industry highly advantageous.
  • Knowledge of resource and capacity management.
  • Strong focus on Safety, Workplace Safety, Workplace Safety Management, Process Safety Management essential.
  • Proven Managerial skills – ability to manage resource and capacity in a professional and timely manner essential.
  • Highly analytical and problem solving skills essential.
  • Strong understanding/awareness of HSSE essential.
  • Previous experience working in Saudi or the Middle East advantageous.
  • Enthusiasm and drive to stay abreast of new trends in your field.
  • Proactive, flexible and dedicated team player, able to achieve goals.
  • Strong Personality with self-confidence
  • Enjoys working in a multidisciplinary team.
  • Excellent communication skills in English with the ability to engage and work effectively with team players from various cultures.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to develop good working relationships
 
Other Information
Package: A highly attractive TAX FREE salary is on offer dependent on skills and experience. In addition, a full Ex-Pat package is available including a range of allowances for housing, transportation, settling. Flights home per year, bonus scheme, end of service benefits, Health etc. 22-26 days holiday plus all Saudi national holidays which are circa 10-14 days.
