A leading renewable energy consortium seeks an Asset Integrity Engineer to optimise the operational life and yield of the Company’s large offshore multi-megawatt wind turbines. Specifically, you will analyse, understand and report on the performance, status and health of all mechanical systems, undertake complex fatigue investigations, develop an advanced understanding of all individual risk profiles, and develop and implement cost-effective risk mitigation strategies where required. Applicants are invited with a degree in Engineering combined with a minimum of 5 years’ experience as an Asset Integrity Engineer. This is a great opportunity to join a growing Company working on one of the largest windfarms in the world.

The Company is Consortium of three leading renewable energy companies and they act as the Operator. They have a core team of staff and subcontract services and maintenance. They were set up specifically to manage the construction and maintenance of a large offshore wind farm in the Kent area. The wind farm has 175 turbines and has a total capacity of 630 megawatts and is currently the largest offshore windfarm in the world.
Reporting to the Lead Engineer – Asset Integrity Team this role encompasses many functions including:
  • Become competent in the Company’s services, work flows and practices.
  • Report accurately on the performance, status and health of the Company’s structural assets.
  • Use data mining and trend analysis to identify and classify asset integrity issues resulting from defective manufacture, assembly, installation, commissioning or maintenance of major mechanical components, sources such as contractors’ inspections, bathymetric data, seabed movement, historical reports, maintenance records, turbine SCADA.
  • Support the delivery of and challenge root cause analysis studies where appropriate.
  • Adhere to and operate within the Company’s AIM framework, delivering a systematic approach to Asset Management.
  • Use analytical and statistical tools to identify trends, perform detailed analysis and create reports of the reliability and performance of all protection systems, and identify where remediation may be required.
  • Develop a deep understanding of all mechanical power transmission and control systems of the WTG: This will include blades, blade bearings, main bearings, gearbox, generator bearings, pitch and yaw control systems, hydraulic power packs, brakes, cranes, cooling, lubrication and condition monitoring systems.
  • Develop understanding of offshore structural design basis and the operational and protective systems of the foundations and transition pieces: This will include cranes and electrical systems, fall arrest systems, subsea cable transition (J-tube) and mechanical protection/strain-relief (CPS) systems, subsea cables, and condition monitoring systems.
  • Update and maintain the Company Asset register through use of Management of Change process. Use the CCMMS and other tools to perform analysis of turbine, balance of plant and operational performance.
  • Manage implementation plans for accepted solutions and remediation activity, and analyse solution effectiveness.
  • Outline and manage all condition monitoring, inspection and maintenance data collection activity, collate and integrate data to AIM and CMMS systems, use to support quality asset integrity reporting
  • Ensuring that all HSE processes and procedures are fully understood and adhered to by contractors
The successful candidate will have:
  • Engineering Degree (i.e. Electrical. Mechanical, Mechatronics, Control or Manufacturing/Production) from an accredited university/body desired.
  • Chartered Engineer status or working towards it desired.
  • A minimum of 5 years’ experience as an asset integrity engineer in the offshore sector essential.
  • Significant experience working with responsibilities in asset integrity, operations and performance improvement essential.
  • Experience of using instrumentation and condition monitoring techniques to analyse and report on the condition and integrity of structural and associated systems essential.
  • Knowledge and understanding of heavy lift marine operations, wind turbine blade erosion analysis, contractor management, offshore wind health and safety, large bearing tribology, mechanical transmissions, rotating equipment essential.
  • Experienced in the of the use of advanced data handling and analysis systems and solutions is an advantage
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to engage and work effectively with team players from various cultures.
  • Ability to make independent decisions in the planning, organizing and coordination of solutions to complex problems.
  • Strong systemic technical and analytical ability, confident in adapting to and using advanced data handling tools.
  • Solution-focussed with the ability to analyse large volumes of data and produce detailed technical reports through developing a 1st principles understanding of the subject matter.
  • Data-oriented, comfortable extracting information from a variety of sources and developing automated performance reporting tools.
  • Flexible and willing to learn complex new systems.
  • Highly organised with a methodical approach to working.
  • Proactive and dedicated team player, able to achieve goals.
  • The ability to travel offshore as required and the willingness to be “hands on” whilst offshore.
