One of the largest domestic Refining Company’s in Saudi seeks a Lead Electrical Engineer to provide technical support on electrical testing, inspection and maintenance of high voltage equipment, protective relays and their associated control circuits. You will also provide technical support in planning and monitoring the execution of electrical maintenance plans and assist in investigating electrical equipment failures throughout the plant. Applicants invited with a degree in Electrical Engineering, combined with a minimum of 15 years electrical engineering experience focussing on fault finding and diagnosis. Working on a Tax Free, Expat permanent role, you will be exposed to a great opportunity to develop your specific expertise working across various stakeholders on high value projects. This role is offered in adherence with Saudi Labour Law and therefore these positions are only open to Males and under the age of 58. This is a senior level role and a commensurable salary is on offer.

Jubail is a large city located in the Eastern Province of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia on the coast of the Persian Gulf and is easily accessible to Bahrain and Al Khobar.

This is a residential permanent position (i.e. not rotational) and the Company provides 22 – 26 days holiday (depending on grade) plus you are entitled to all of the Saudi Public holidays (circa 10 - 14 days) which provide ample time to visit family. The package is substantial, with allowances for housing / settling in / transportation, annual bonus, medical, schooling, flights home etc. The Company will organise all mobilisation / demobilisation transport.

Due to visa restrictions within Saudi, there is a preference for western nationals such as American, Canadian, Australian, Europeans etc.
Reporting to the Engineering Technical Services Manager, you will be responsible for:
  • Provide technical support on electrical testing, inspection and maintenance of high voltage equipment, protective relays and their associated control circuits.
  • Provide technical support in planning and monitoring the execution of electrical maintenance plans.
  • Assist in investigating electrical equipment failures throughout the plant.
  • Become the custodian of the Electrical Master Plan and play the role of the technical authority for change approvals.
  • Provide professional engineering advice and technical expertise for Company’s business units and departments to support project development, engineering studies, SD/TA plans and activities, I&R improvement programs.
  • Assist in the development, monitoring, implementation and revision of plant electrical equipment maintenance strategies to ensure and enhance the integrity and reliability of electrical equipment.
  • Assist in Bad Actors reviews (electrical equipment), analyse the problems/issues and provide recommendations to ensure and enhance asset reliability.
  • Develop and implement integrity audit plans for electrical equipment to ensure integrity of assets.
  • Provide technical authority approval for the design changes.
  • Provide shutdown / turnaround scope of work for electrical support discipline to ensure and enhance availability and integrity of plant and equipment.
  • Plan, prepare and execute assigned SD/TA maintenance tasks (electrical maintenance, inspection, QA/QC of contractor) to ensure safe and reliable operation of the plant.
  • Develop, plan, execute, monitor and review T&I plans for electrical systems to ensure safe and reliable operation of the plant.
  • Develop and keep up the custody of the Electrical Master Plan.
  • Lead, motivate, develop and assess the assigned team to achieve business objectives and grow capability.
  • Ensure the business processes and work activities, relevant to position, are executed in compliance with Company policy, procedures and best practice to achieve the business objectives in a safe, efficient and cost effective manner.
  • Workplace (WPS) and Process (PSM) Safety, Within the position holder’s area of responsibility:
    • Ensure that measures to protect personal safety and well-being are always in place and that personal actions do not jeopardize the safety and well-being of others.
    • Adhere strictly to all IOWs, Safe Operating Procedures, and Safe Work Instructions - thus preventing potential WPS and PSM incidents at all times.
    • Apply the Company HSE Policy; the 5 Safety Principles, and enforce the 12 Golden Safety Rules.
  • Performance Indicators:
    • No personal injury or injury to a third party.
    • No WPS or PSM incident caused.
  • Keep abreast of emerging trends and technologies within your relevant field.
The successful candidate will have
  • Full time degree (no long distance learning degrees) in Electrical Engineering or equivalent essential.
  • A minimum of 15 years’ Electrical engineering experience in the oil/gas, refinery or petrochemical industries essential.
  • Significant experience in the maintenance and distribution of switchgears essential.
  • Knowledge of Refinery Industry highly advantageous.
  • Previous experience in Fault finding and Diagnosis Techniques essential.
  • Knowledge of Engineering Standard Practice & Safety in Design essential.
  • Strong experience working with an Electrical capacity of 34.5 kv and 115kv essential.
  • Strong focus on Safety, Workplace Safety, Workplace Safety Management, Process Safety Management essential.
  • Highly analytical and problem solving skills essential.
  • Previous experience working in Saudi or the Middle East advantageous.
  • Proven Managerial skills – ability to manage multiple projects concurrently in a professional and timely manner essential.
  • Enthusiasm and drive to stay abreast of new trends in your field.
  • Proactive, flexible and dedicated team player, able to achieve goals.
  • Strong Personality with the self-confidence to make decisions independently.
