Overview
A manufacturing start-up seeks a Mechanical Engineer to help ramp up their production from their current small-scale production capabilities. The Company are building a team of Mechanical Engineer, Electrical Engineer, Process Engineer and Software Engineers and are looking for people with expertise in design/automation within their respective discipline. Applicants are invited with a degree and a background in mechanical engineering, ideally within the automotive, consumer electronic, automation, spray-processing sectors or any related volume business. The key to this role is an understanding and experience in design engineering and/or automation. The Company is open to looking at graduates, with a good degree in mechanical engineering who are eager to learn and gain a first step on their career ladder. This is a great opportunity for an individual looking to influence the growth of an exciting new start up.

The Company started 10 years ago and was set up by scientists from a well-known university institute that specialises in the manufacture of plasma thin film deposition tools. The ultimate goal of the company is to develop systems that allow for the commercialisation of nanomaterials produced at low temperature. These materials are produced for the Aerospace and Defence, Aesthetics, Consumer Goods, Membrane filtration and Semiconductor sectors.

With 9 people currently employed, the Company is rapidly growing and successfully launched their latest product (a high-emissivity “super-black” coating) and are now looking at establishing production capability for this.
 
Responsibilities
This role encompasses many functions including:
  • Become competent in the Company’s business matters, work flows and practices.
  • Design handling system and tooling for the Company’s spray coatings.
  • Design and implement high volume Production Processes and Systems for spray coatings and their subsequent vacuum post-processing
  • Develop handling and automation solutions appropriate to anticipated volumes.
  • Interface with sub-contractors, installation and commissioning of volume production equipment
 
Preferences
The successful candidate will have:
  • A degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent essential.
  • Background in Mechanical Engineering highly advantageous. The Company is open to looking at graduates.
  • Experience within the automotive, consumer electronic, automation, spray-processing sectors or any related volume business highly desired.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of handling and automation for spray-type processes desired.
  • Design of bespoke jigging and fixtures desired.
  • Project management/delivery experience essential.
  • Computational fluid dynamics (CFD) knowledge desirable
  • IT literate – a proficient user of Microsoft Office applications essential.
  • Self-driven with strong time-management skills, the ability to work in a dynamic, fast-paced environment essential.
  • Entrepreneurial – ambition to help grow a facility and company.
  • Excellent verbal communications skills essential, with the ability to listen and discuss matters in a clear and articulate manner.
  • Strong problem solving ability.
  • Strong organisation skills and a methodical approach to all work essential.
  • Proactive and flexible with the ability to work independently to achieve goals.
