Overview
Interested in TAX FREE Role? One of the largest domestic Refining Company’s in Saudi seeks a Lead Corrosion Engineer to implement corrosion control strategies through conducting, analysing and interpreting corrosion survey data and monitoring equipment corrosion in compliance with Company strategies and operational priorities (profit, safety, reliability, and environmental requirements). Applicants invited with a degree in Chemical Engineering or equivalent, combined with a minimum of 15 years relevant experience, of which at least 8 should be in corrosion engineering. Previous experience within the Refining Industry would be highly advantageous. Working on a Tax Free, Expat permanent role, you will be exposed to a great opportunity to develop your specific expertise working across various stakeholders on high value projects. This role is offered in adherence with Saudi Labour Law and therefore these positions are only open to Males and under the age of 58. This is a senior level role and a commensurable salary is on offer.

Jubail is a large city located in the Eastern Province of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia on the coast of the Persian Gulf and is easily accessible to Bahrain and Al Khobar.

This is a residential permanent position (i.e. not rotational) and the Company provides 22 – 26 days holiday (depending on grade) plus you are entitled to all of the Saudi Public holidays (circa 10 - 14 days) which provide ample time to visit family. The package is substantial, with allowances for housing / settling in / transportation, annual bonus, medical, schooling, flights home etc. The Company will organise all mobilisation / demobilisation transport.


Due to visa restrictions within Saudi, there is a preference for western nationals such as American, Canadian, Australian, Europeans etc.
 
Responsibilities
Reporting to the Integrity and Inspection Manager, you will be responsible for:
  • Reviewing process parameters and plant performance to prepare for effective discussions relevant production teams pertaining to corrosion/erosion related issues and potential problems.
  • Working closely with respective inspectors to specify required data, data collection methodology and templates.
  • Providing high level support to area senior inspection engineer for sophisticated corrosion cases which requires detailed RCA and may requires follow up with external specialists.
  • Carrying out spot checks for on-stream corrosion monitoring points to ensure the reliability of on-stream corrosion/erosion monitoring program.
  • Analysing high corrosion rate trends and other related corrosion survey information to determine the causes of potential corrosion and make the required adjustment to IOW.
  • Owning and updating the Corrosion Control Manuals (RBI reports) of all Operating Units at the Company. Lead periodic discussions with SPIRIT teams and ensure that all RBI recommendations are implemented as agreed.
  • Reviewing IOW’s on a daily basis and advising area inspectors and SPIRIT on the basis of observations (if any). Introducing and updating new IOW’s if deemed necessary.
  • Reviewing MOC’s in terms of Corrosion and Metallurgy and advising the team to ensure optimum results.
  • Undertaking the collection and studying of Corrosion related “LFI’s”. Discussing them with the Inspection team to increase awareness and prevent recurrence.
  • Accommodating any internal or external assessments/audits to Company integrity management system and own action tracking process.
  • Establishing and maintaining an integrity management system for static equipment by developing missing inspection strategy and follow up the implementation plan.
  • Identifying typical and common corrosion/erosion mechanism in the refinery to recommend effective preventive measures.
  • Providing sound and practical recommendations based on data collected, trend analysis and conducted studies to prevent corrosion and maximize plant integrity.
  • Monitoring the implementation of approved recommendations and reporting deviations from the agreed specifications and deadlines.
  • Participating in commissioning, start up and testing of any new corrosion monitoring systems.
  • Participating in the review of project’s packages with respect to corrosion (i.e. during design basis scoping, project proposal and detailed design phases).
  • Working with other engineering groups to provide data, information and recommendations such as facility modifications, corrosion programs, chemical treatment processes, and chemical injection applications.
  • Reviewing and updating changes proposed to corrosion standards, procedures and manuals and participating in identifying, planning and implementing work process improvement opportunities.
  • Supervising the NDT and QA/QC Engineer.
  • Ensuring the business processes and work activities, relevant to position, are executed in compliance with Company policy, procedures and best practice to achieve the business objectives in a safe, efficient and cost effective manner.
  • Leading, motivating, developing and assessing the assigned team to achieve business objectives and grow capability.
  • Ensures compliance with Saudi laws and regulations
  • Workplace (WPS) and Process (PSM) Safety, Within the position holder’s area of responsibility:
    • Ensure that measures to protect personal safety and well-being are always in place and that personal actions do not jeopardize the safety and well-being of others.
    • Adhere strictly to all IOWs, Safe Operating Procedures, and Safe Work Instructions - thus preventing potential WPS and PSM incidents at all times.
    • Apply the Company HSE Policy; the 5 Safety Principles, and enforce the 12 Golden Safety Rules.
  • Performance Indicators:
    • No personal injury or injury to a third party.
    • No WPS or PSM incident caused.
  • Keep abreast of emerging trends and technologies within your relevant field.
 
Preferences
The successful candidate will have
  • Full time degree (no long distance learning degrees) in Chemical Engineering or equivalent essential.
  • A minimum of 15 years’ relevant experience in the oil/gas, refinery or petrochemical industries essential.
  • Minimum of 8 years’ corrosion engineering essential.
  • Experience within the Refinery Industry highly advantageous.
  • Strong understanding of relevant chemical reactions essential.
  • Previous experience in Corrosion Prevention essential.
  • Experience of Refinery Equipment and Machinery highly desired.
  • Strong focus on Safety, Workplace Safety, Workplace Safety Management, Process Safety Management essential.
  • Proven Managerial skills – ability to manage multiple projects concurrently in a professional and timely manner essential.
  • Highly analytical and problem solving skills essential.
  • Previous experience working in Saudi or the Middle East advantageous.
  • Enthusiasm and drive to stay abreast of new trends in your field.
  • Proactive, flexible and dedicated team player, able to achieve goals.
  • Strong Personality with self-confidence
