Overview
Interested in TAX FREE Role? A major global engineering and design service provider seeks a Lead Fire Protection Engineer to be responsible for resolving Fire protection engineering issues by applying accepted principles, codes and standards. Applicants invited with a minimum of 10 years’ experience in Fire Protection Engineering in the Oil/Gas, hydrocarbon, refinery, offshore or infrastructure Industries. You should be recognized as specialist in the Mechanical Engineering field on large to mega Projects. Working on a Tax Free, Expat residential permanent role, you will be exposed to a great opportunity to develop your specific expertise working across various stakeholders on high value projects. This role is offered in adherence with Saudi Labour Law and therefore these positions are only open to Males and under the age of 58.

The Company employs 5000+ people and formed in 2009 from the integration of two of the Kingdom’s engineering companies. They provide engineering, project management, procurement and construction management solutions for Oil/Gas, Pipelines, Healthcare, Waste and Wastewater, Petrochemical etc.

Al-Khobar is a large city located in the Eastern Province of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia on the coast of the Persian Gulf and is linked to Bahrain via the causeway.

This is a residential permanent position (i.e. not rotational) and the Company provides 22 – 28 days holiday (depending on grade) plus you are entitled to all of the Saudi Public holidays (circa 10 - 14 days). The Company will provide accommodation for single or family status in a secure compound. They will organise all mobilisation / demobilisation transport and you will be entitled to 2 flights home per year.

Due to visa restrictions within Saudi, there is a preference for American, Canadian and British nationals.




 
Responsibilities
Responsibilities: Reporting to the Mechanical Head of Department/Project Manager, you will be responsible for:
  • Reviewing the Design drawings and documents, Equipment specifications/data sheets and materials of Fire protection equipment’s and components.
  • Providing technical and consultation as required.
  • Providing guidance to the project Fire protection Design Team.
  • Resolving Fire protection engineering issues by applying accepted principles, codes and standards. Must have through knowledge and hands on experience on NFPA and NACE standards.
  • Providing and supporting mechanical engineering activities to Company FEED/Detailed Design projects.
  • Approving (as the Lead Engineer) all Fire protection deliverables.
  • Planning, coordination & supervision of the production of Mechanical Deliverables as well as overall coordination for preparation of Deliverables list for proposals.
  • Planning and scheduling of discipline deliverables and activities including man-hour estimating when requested, requesting personnel as identified by the plan, and supervision of Fire Protection personnel on the project. Performing wall thickness and branch reinforcing calculations.
  • Reviewing the Basis of Design (BOD) & Project Execution Plan (PEP) as well as all Client provided data. Performing thorough review of relevant vendor information.
  • Coordinating with all disciplines (as necessary) in the preparation and development of the deliverables and ensuring that other disciplines’ input is incorporated.
  • Preparing equipment specifications, datasheets & VDRFs, whilst following all operational procedures (i.e. incorporating check & IDC comments).
  • Performing preliminary/basic sizing of equipment to provide preliminary input to the MHDP, structural & layouts group.
  • Ensuring equipment compliance with package electrical, structural & instrument specifications, as well as applicable code requirements and national/international standards.
  • Preparing enquiry requisitions in PDMC/Pacesetter.
  • Evaluating bids & preparing technical bid evaluations and providing input to joint purchase recommendation.
  • Preparing bid clarification questions and handles responses, and coordinates/chairs technical aspects of bid clarification meetings.
  • Updating datasheets and specifications for purchase.
  • Reviewing all vendor data, solicits specific input from affected disciplines, and returns comments on ‘coded’ documents within the allocated timeframe.
  • Reporting on work status/problem areas/needs on a weekly basis.
  • Liaising with and reporting to Management and Clients.
  • Assisting the department manager in providing technical excellence and standards for the department.
  • Preparing work force staffing requirements and process schedules for projects.
  • Assisting in preparing the list of deliverables and estimation for the proposals.
  • Routinely communicate with both the Client counterpart and the Head of Department/Project Manager on project status.
  • Supervising the work of other Fire protection Engineers assigned to the jobs.
  • Overseeing/reviewing AFDs, Floor Plans and Hydrant network P&IDs and presenting to peers and/or Clients.
  • Overseeing/reviewing Process Equipment specifications and data sheets.
  • Keeping abreast of emerging trends and technologies within your relevant field.
 
Preferences
Preferences: The successful candidate will have
  • Full time degree (no long distance learning degrees) in Engineering essential. Accredited degree in Fire Protection highly advantageous.
  • PE registration with a US based NCEES or UK based chartered engineer highly desired.
  • NFPA Certified.
  • A minimum of 10 years’ Fire Protection Engineering in the Oil/Gas, hydrocarbon, refinery, offshore or infrastructure Industries essential.
  • Familiarity with the Installation of Sprinkler Systems, Water Spray Fixed Systems Installation of Stationary Pumps, Water Tanks for Private Fire Protection, Private Fire Service, Water Based Fire Protection Systems Water cooling Towers, Fire Flow Testing and Marking of Hydrants, Aircraft Hangars and Electric Generating Plant essential.
  • Thorough knowledge of all types of Fire protections essential.
  • Previous experience working in Saudi or the Middle East advantageous.
  • Ability to make independent decisions in the planning, organizing and coordination of solutions to complex problems.
  • Competent with the ability to lead a team of discipline engineers and provide engineering support.
  • Enthusiasm and drive to stay abreast of new trends and technologies in your field.
  • Proactive, flexible and dedicated team player, able to achieve goals.
  • Enjoys working in a multidisciplinary team essential.
  • Excellent communication skills in English with the ability to engage and work effectively with team players from various cultures.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to develop good working relationships
  • Ability and willingness to travel offshore.
  • Ability to lift and carry things whilst offshore.
 
Other Information
Package: A highly attractive Tax Free salary is on offer dependent on skills and experience.
