Overview

A Leading Systems Consultancy focused on delivering Trading, Logistics, Optimisation and Risk Management solutions for clients in the commodity and energy trading industries seeks a Business Analyst – Energy Trading to complement the team as they experience a period of growth. Applicants are invited with a proven track record of delivering results as a Business Analyst on high profile projects, preferably with an energy trading or finance background.

The Company has been providing services and solutions to help clients manage deregulation changes and capitalise on new market opportunities for over 20 years. Their experience has since extended across the global markets and commodity set, helping clients deal with portfolio management, risk management and financial accounting requirements in the context of complex contractual terms and logistics management. They have been at the forefront of developing software to manage these risks. The Company is highly reputable and has conducted projects across all commodities including Oil and Gas, Metals, LNG, Power etc.

Responsibilities

This role encompasses many functions;
  • Become competent in the Company’s software solutions, work flows and practices.
  • Provide business analysis lead to key projects with existing clients.
  • Work with client business users to analyse business problems, gather and validate business requirements and derive business solutions.
  • Facilitate business analysis workshops.
  • Translate business systems requirements into clear functional systems designs.
  • Provide a link between the business stakeholders and the project technical team.
  • Work within close project teams in fast-paced agile environments.
  • Develop software acceptance criteria that can be used to validate the functionality of developed software against the defined requirements and functional designs.
  • Communicate effectively with other team members and project managers to ensure that project targets are met.
  • Quickly learn commodities trading concepts and then able to apply this knowledge within a consultancy role.
  • Knowledge transfer and mentoring of more junior members of staff.

This role is ideal for an individual with a background in Energy or Commodities Trading or exposure to the Gas, Power or LNG industries. In this role you will gain a wide range of experience in all aspects of business analysis and software development within large commodities trading organisations. The Company will support your professional development and will provide ample opportunities for you to extend your skills on a variety of interesting commodities trading projects.

 
Preferences

The successful candidate will have:
  • A bachelor’s degree in a business related discipline essential.
  • A minimum of 3 years’ experience within a Business Analysis role essential.
  • Proven track record of delivering results as a BA on high profile projects essential.
  • Ability to display a structured and methodical approach to business analysis and problem solving essential.
  • Excellent understanding of data analysis and data modelling techniques essential.
  • Good understanding of agile software development methods such as SCRUM, and the role of the business analyst on agile projects essential.
  • Proven experience in stakeholder management, running user interview sessions and business analysis workshops highly desired.
  • Good understanding of relational database concepts and the ability to write SQL queries highly desired.
  • Proven understanding of software user-interface design and functional design highly desired.
  • Excellent understanding of Microsoft Office applications such as Word and Excel highly desired.
  • Good understanding of core business concepts and able to pick up concepts quickly and understand how they are implemented within software applications highly desired.
  • Highly motivated, self-starting individual who can manage their own time and deliver to tight project deadlines.
  • Knowledge of commodities trading concepts highly desired.
  • Knowledge of formal business process and data modelling techniques, examples include Swim Lane Process Diagrams, Entity Relationship Modelling and UML highly desired.
  • Highly analytical/methodical – the ability to understand the problem, the tools available and to deliver the solution.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills essential – the ability to interact effectively with other team members.
  • Excellent communications skills essential (both written and oral English), with the ability to listen and discuss technical matters in a clear and articulate manner.
  • Ability to pick up business concepts quickly and understand how to logically implement them within a software solution.

 
Other Information

Package: Dependent on skills and experience, a Base Salary of £50K - £60K plus a performance based bonuses is on offer.
